About Hester Jones

​Hester Jones is a British Artist b.1973 based in London, UK.

She spent several years living in Italy, where she had her first training in photography. Followed by PgCert Photography at Central St Martins School of Art, and MA Photography at London College of Communication. She also gained BA (hons) English & Italian from the Universities of Westminster and Bologna. In 2020, she graduates from MA Creative Writing & Publishing at Bournemouth University, where
 she is writing her first novel.

Hester's multi-disciplinary practice incorporates photography, video, installation, storytelling, sound, found images, text, and objects to probe gender roles and hierarchical structures in patriarchal society.  Her work is inspired by eco-feminism, animal studies, neuroscience, and Eastern philosophies, to explore human and animal consciousness, and analogous behaviours and emotions: such as empathy, fear, and anxiety. She is also committed to working in the area of Arts and Health.

In November 2020, her recent artwork Cock Stock will be published in Carol J. Adam's The Pornography of Meat:
 New and Updated Edition by Bloomsbury. In January 2018 her work was presented at the Minding Animals Conference in Mexico City. In 2017 she exhibited at The Animal Museum, Los Angeles, USA, with 14 international artists, to commemorate Carol J Adam's 25th Anniversary of The Sexual Politics of Meat. Her writing and photographs are published in the accompanying book The Art of the Animal. 

Other Exhibitions & Festivals include Brighton Photo Fringe, Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institute, Barbican Arts Trust, Krakow Photomonth, and Photomonth London. She has led participatory photography projects and residencies commissioned by Arts Council England, NHS, City of Westminster, and at The Photographer's Gallery and other London museums.

From 2015-2017 she travelled through 16 countries in Russia and Asia teaching film-making & photography to kids from underserved communities. Also, making films to help marine conservation, human-trafficking, women's and animal welfare organisations. There she trained as a professional scuba diver and yoga teacher.
